March 4th through 10th 2012

BORN THIS WEEK   Rex Harrison (March 5, 1906)

"The sign of Pisces thus boasts a host of "Peter Perfects,” fancy fussbudgets whose often rough and humble origins bely their aristocratic airs and high-brow raison d'êtres."

In blanket terms, Pisces men fall into two categories, George Harrisons or Rex Harrisons, though sometimes the twain shall meet in fastidious activists like Harry Belafonte or Ralph Nader. Pisces, the mutable-water sign (think fog and mists, elements of illusion and enchantment) is ruled by Neptune, the planet of fantasy, magic, imagination, delusion and dissolution. As such, Pisces men are endowed with the power to fully inhabit their fantasy selves, dissolving from their make-up any traits or, from their story, any truths that run counter to their romanticized vision of self. The sign of Pisces thus boasts a host of “Peter Perfects,” fancy fussbudgets whose often rough and humble origins bely their aristocratic airs and high-brow raison d’êtres. The lock-jawed George Plimpton, David Niven, Tony Randall, Jim Backus, Rex Harrison, Rob Lowe, Mitt Romney, Pierce Brosnan, Kyle Maclachlan, Kelsey Grammar, Ron Howard, Bret Easton Ellis, Anthony Daniels, (Star Wars’ c3p0) all seem programmed for proper protocol, on screen and off. Ironically, straight Pisces little-Lord-Fauntleroys often go for ribald babes with an earthy, open sexuality, while Pisces’ priggish airs can make their own appear indeterminate.

Aries

With a Grand Trine in Earth of Pluto, Mars and Jupiter, you feel bogged down by obligation and seek short cuts, if not a total embargo on responsibility. We could lecture on how this only cuts you off from character building. Or why powering through makes future challenges more cakey to accomplish. But we’ll spare you that. What we will say is that in sidestepping what life is serving, you rob yourself of serendipity that brings success. But by accepting what life offers, you find the magic in the mundane minutiae.

Taurus

Hitting your stride, you personify progressive ideals without seeming like a free radical. As Venus enters Taurus, Monday, you gain momentum and support for out-of-the-box ideas, winning over stuffed shirts who may pony up to help you realize visions. Others’ interest in you, romantically and professionally, is piqued, allowing you to soft pedal hard sells. You go in for the kill with a bold career move, making it seem a subtle and elegant maneuver. The Full Moon, Thursday, prescribes a major romp in nature and/or the hay.

Gemini

Mercury and Uranus squaring Pluto bubbles emotions to the surface. Avoid aggravation; but beware of people-pleasing. It can read as patronizing to those who sense investment isn’t heartfelt. You’re ready for a career breakthrough. This entails recognizing some of your shtick is becoming stale. Would-be champions need new products, plans or proposals from you. Your schedule is packed, but busy doesn’t always equal successful. Eliminate an excess quantity of engagements, saving energy to devote more to quality ones.

This month, see Starsky + Cox ZODIAC with a "Z" at Joe's Pub, NYC, March 23rd. Get your tickets here!

Cancer

The Cancer Moon T-square Venus and Saturn causes karmic effects. If you’ve focused on romancing yourself and showering others with appreciation, expect tony career and social opportunities. But if you’ve been in a passive-aggressive spin down, scapegoating others for your own shortcomings to remove them from your path, expect to do some penance. And don’t think you’ll get away with an illicit tryst. Only single Cancerians who hold true to their highest romantic ideals will conjure real love to them by way of honest wishcraft.

Leo

You now dedicate resources and energy to helping others. And in advance of Thursday’s Full Moon, you’ll do so, behind the scenes, without seeking credit. Indeed, you eschew it. You find that selfless acts are actually quite selfish to perform. For, you never feel better than when you’re helping those in need. It’s an indulgence we condone. And one you will make a mainstay in your life. Venus trine Pluto inspires higher consciousness via learning or travel which, even if work-related, will ultimately nurture a burgeoning spiritual life.

Virgo

You may be feeling shafted. But you’ll be darned if you’ll sit idly by and let others eat your lunch. A Grand Trine of Mars, Jupiter and Pluto creates a pipeline for keeping tabs on those showing you just one of their two faces. By Thursday’s Full Moon, situations come to a head, and yet you’re suffused with diplomatic energy. Expect a surplus of solicitation for your involvement in a deal—but do not collude or collaborate. Now is about embracing as much career autonomy as you can, leaving detractors in the dust.

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Available in paperback and as an ebook.

Libra

There is benefit in not having all the answers even though we know you do. Being an intuitive listener is worlds more valued than playing a fix-it role. And Venus entering Taurus says to keep your own counsel and to mine internal resources for guidance in your personal life. On the career front, you will have admitted fault when you were not the culprit. Trust. The truth will ultimately surface and you will be vindicated. Meanwhile, even conflicts contribute to big-wigs taking notice of you and furthering your lofty aims.

Scorpio

Horizons expand as you put visionary ideas into solid action. Now is the precise moment to ask for help or money for new enterprises. Venus opposing Saturn casts her charm on whatever task you seek to master. The road you’re on is the one less traveled, but you’re rewarded for trailblazing endeavors. Venus entering Taurus also heats up romance, even mixing business with plain old getting busy. That said, you can invite hostility. Take nothing personally. Self-professed rivals are jealous of your increasing self-possession.

Sagittarius

Pruning excess ensures growth and freedom. A Grand Trine of Jupiter, Mars and Pluto weeds out extra work, curbs spending and limits social interaction. Temporarily. The cosmos wants you as unbeholden as possible. You shouldn’t even be bound to the list of books you’d like to read. A lot of nothing is the most productive thing to do. This enables uncomfortable feelings to surface, so you’ll know what it is you’re repressing. The Full Moon, Thursday, makes you psychedelically aware of the banalities you must transcend.

Capricorn

There’s a need for integration, bringing the myriad moving parts of your life into a more cohesive system. Mercury and Uranus squaring Pluto portends putting out fires en route to consolidating energy. Personal fulfillment requires being more magnetic, stepping back to gain big-picture perspectives on family and friendly dynamics, so to master emotions. You’re also urged to specialize more in career, focusing your spirit on pursuing specific goals, instead of being a human dream-catcher, grabbing what blows your way.

Aquarius

Mercury conjunct Uranus, squaring Pluto says that abundance is now measured by creative output, a growing circle of friends, and a new epoch of romantic increase—whether via one relationship or a string of serious love affairs. Though you’ve done without material trappings, and are happier for it, you’ve always intended on crawling into the largest lap of luxury you can score. But with Thursday’s Full Moon, you learn you really don’t value such things at all. It’s knowledge and experience you prize most highly.

Pisces

As confident and charismatic as you are at this juncture, you’ll concede you’ve felt a bit like a second banana in a relationship or business partnership, or both, making you a tad grabby for the spotlight. With Saturn trine Neptune, you are increasingly symbiotic in your bonds, while others ubiquitously hail you as the professional and social flavor of the moment. And you easily confront would-be problems and setbacks with compromise solutions and secret passageways to progress, forgiving those who trespass against you.

February 26-March 3 2012

In the lexicon of Sextrology (now available as an ebook) Pisces woman is The Diva of the zodiac, expressing the perfect paradox of her opposite facing fish...and this week's gorge birthday girl, Cindy Wilson, will "give you fish" and "give you candy."

BORN THIS WEEK  Cindy Wilson (February 28, 1957)

In the lexicon of Sextrology (now available as an ebook) Pisces woman is The Diva of the zodiac, expressing the perfect paradox of her opposite facing fish, in her reliance on the kindness of others, strangers included, and her emphatic demand that they snap-to in pleasing her. Blanche du Bois is the quintessential literary archetype of the Fish female, the symbol fishies being the animal-form of the goddess Aphrodite (also called Mari) and her son Eros who directly correlate to Mary and Jesus—Mary’s della robbia blue gown fringed in white is the sea fringed with foam, and Blanche du Bois wears this color dress at the end of A Streetcar Named Desire. Remember, Blanche’s first love, who was a little light in the loaves and fishes, was killed, or shall we say, sacrificed, setting her up for a fixation on lover-sons, like the boy coming round selling flavored ices. “Cherry?” she wonders. And little wonder that sensitive boys in life flock to real life Pisces women whom they worship as mother-lover diva-muses with whom they feel a paradoxical affinity as long-suffering and ultra fun-loving. Think: Anna Magnani, Joanne Woodward, Liza Minnelli, Ivana Trump, Tammy Faye Bakker, Cyd Charisse, Rue McClanahan, Patty Hearst, Sandy Duncan, Bernadette Peters (for Cole Escola),  Catherine O’Hara, Anaïs Nin, Chelsea Handler, Jean Harlow, Sharon Stone, Pat Nixon, Elizabeth Taylor and this week’s gorge birthday girl who’ll “give you fish” and “give you candy”,  Cindy Wilson.

Aries

Clarity is all you seek. With the Sun opposing ruler Mars, you’re being fed disinformation from outside sources. So slap on a filter, through Friday, taking nothing on face value. That goes double for hype on any new work you’re taking on—people will talk up potential doors that’ll open and future opportunities resulting from sweat equity. We think not. Spending too much time making a living, leaves less time for your actual life.  Mercury enters Aries, Friday, dispelling lingering doubts that you lack certain expertise.

Taurus

Relationships can now drain energy earmarked for personal goals. So check that bonds don’t become excuses for not pursuing them. Saturn opposing Jupiter in your sign, till Thursday, puts you at odds with convention. This is no time to play things safe. Risk-taking is rewarded. You will have to defer desire for immediate satisfaction. Impatience has been your undoing in the past, but it’s something you’re now urged to get a handle on. The Moon opposing Pluto, Saturday, provides emotional distance to kick nasty habits.

Gemini

An unaspected Uranus (disconnected from other planets) makes you feel like something’s missing. Or that you can’t quite put your finger on what you want, or from whence you can derive pleasure. Let it be a lesson in not having to constantly stimulate your senses. Doing so distracts from feeling what you’re meant to feel: Your oft-ignored emotions. Ruler Mercury conjuncts Uranus as the week unfolds, unleashing drives for success along with purely lusty ones. Be mindful mixing them, not to say you can’t blend biz with plej.

Cancer

Peace of mind is your responsibility, which Mars trining Pluto won’t let you forget. So don’t scapegoat others for falling off any wagons, especially the rage buggy. Yes, your workload is heavy, but tackling it can be a form of meditation. By Friday, the Cancer Moon makes myriad planetary connections. Finances seem fuzzy, but, it turns out, in your favor: Cash flows from unexpected sources. Don’t let a pile-up of projects unravel travel plans. Mind yourself first. Acting from a place of pleasing others backfires big time.

Starsky + Cox ZODIAC with a "Z" at Joe's Pub, NYC, March 23rd. Get your tickets here!

Leo

You benefit from soliciting outside help for issues you fiercely guarded from others. With Saturn opposing Venus, you’re suffused with a childlike vulnerability and a basic need to recharge batteries and enjoy simple pleasures. You find sophisticated dealings and posturing folks fatuous. Your own public persona enjoys a status rise, ironically, just as you give it less importance. The moral of this week’s story: Don’t pack professional dealings with personality. You’re more valued keeping yourself out of reach.

Virgo

With Mars opposing Mercury, you’re seeking to control those in your midst, or to amass a circle of minions to do your bidding. You’ve been laidback, for the most part, lately. But you make up for lost time, imposing authority and otherwise letting it be known who’s at the top of the food chain. You are, let’s not say anxious, but eager to manifest desired outcomes. And you will tend to bite the heads off those who question your vision. When Mercury hits Aries, Friday, it makes you more self assured and way less insistent.

Libra

Deference for elders and mentors is admirable. But you are ready to step out of their shadows to let your own talents shine. Where you once felt reticent in doing this, you now feel sanctioned with blessings. As Jupiter and Saturn end their long stand-off, money is made through unique opportunities, and by stepping out of tired routines. You need to build muscle, putting ideas and abilities out there, even if they end up on the chopping block. Ye olde adage, it’s what you don’t do that causes regret, rings truest for you now.

Scorpio

Pluto trines Mars and squares Uranus now, reining in extravagant impulses, opening you to unexpected possibility. You may pursue far-fetched ideas or far-flung longings. But you do so with a sense of caution and conservatism you didn’t possess in the past when you last indulged flights of fancy or expat dreams. You also quit playing mind games with loved ones, dropping competitive delusions and tit-for-tat shenanigans. True friends aren’t those you can control, but those who love you despite your attempts to impose it.

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Now available in paperback and as an ebook.

Sagittarius

Those of you in an existing relationship require a deepening, or elimination, of it. While Archers in newish bonds seek to invest more emotional trust. This thrills some partners but sends others running for the hills. As Mars faces off with Mercury, you may find that a desire to play house didn’t deliver as much fun as you anticipated, even though a mate is over the Moon, which opposes Pluto by Friday. You’ll take this as your cue to pull back, citing a preoccupation with career intrigue. On that front, your star shoots higher.

Capricorn

Saturn’s trine of Neptune illustrates the ways you’ve been living in a fool’s paradise. Financial facts must be faced. Re: joint resources especially. Communication must be improved in these matters. Even if it’s an inner dialogue. You are more flush than you think, you’ve just become addicted to worry about cash flow.  Saturn opposing Venus can send you looking for love in a number of places, not necessarily wrong ones. Do beware of overly expressing a desire for companionship, even if only seeking the fleeting variety.

Aquarius

Healthy mental pathways are being restored, thwarting would-be pathologies. Mercury conjunct Uranus makes you less reactionary and more proactive. This improved cranial system is tested when a sudden change of plans occurs, potentially impacting your lifestyle in a major way. Though, you must realize, that is rather up to you. Feeling victimized should last under five minutes. At which time silver linings must be sought. It’s not easy to see set-backs as blessings, but it’s crucial to your spiritual development.

Pisces

Emotions run high as Mercury gears up to leave your sign on Thursday. Those on whose undying devotion you rely might be turning their attention elsewhere, making you feel insecure. Loved ones assume you’re more resilient than you are. They don’t realize your signature detachment is a defense mechanism to protect you from getting too close because you can be so easily hurt. Until now that is. Airing bruised feelings lets others know you care, yes. It also makes them more responsible to you, moving forward.

Haute Astrology

February 19 through 25 , 2012

BORN THIS WEEK   Kurt Cobain  February 20, 1967

To mark the Aquarius-Pisces cusp, we offer this up for your consideration: Just as John the Baptist (the Waterbearer) makes way for Jesus, so too does the sign of Aquarius (the Waterbearer) make way for Pisces whose opposite facing fish are the totems of the great sea-goddess of love, Aphrodite, and her son, Eros. They took fish form to escape danger, tied to each other other by an umbilical cord. Now, Aphrodite was also called Mari, thus she is Mary—Mary’s della robbia blue gown fringed in white is the sea fringed with foam. Eros is love—Jesus is love. Get it? And Pisces men, drawing on this archetype, are wicked Christ-y. A Pisces mess of messiahs includes George Harrison, Peter Fonda, Lord Byron, Roger Daltry, Victor Garber, Jon Bon Jovi, Lou Reed, James Taylor, Albert Einstein, L. Ron Hubbard, Steve Jobs, Jack Kerouac and Kurt Cobain. Recalls his band’s Nevermind cover art of the floating baby, and their last, entitled In Utero. The transition from Aquarius to Pisces is likened to the Revelation that leads to reaching Nirvana.

"Pisces men are wicked Christ-y."

Aries

You no like second-bananadom. In situations where you’ve felt like an accessory, you now take your full place and power. Mercury opposing Mars sees old wounds of self-doubt healing with nary a scar. And a slew of planets in Pisces makes you empathetic in the extreme. You’re a living example of the adage: So long as one of us is oppressed, nobody is free. Your steely gaze is focused on Truth. Those who can’t look you in the eye must have something to hide. Use your righteous energy to finish every good fight.

Taurus

Allow yourself to bask in the, shall we say, afterglow of scored achievements, taking a breather from attacking new goals. Venus detaching from Pluto urges you to exercise versatility muscles. You’d be the first to admit you cling to desired expectations, not remaining flexible enough. So here’s your chance to be the wizard of whatevs. By taking setbacks and snafus in stride, you show active faith that better outcomes are imminent. With the New Moon, Tuesday, comes a luxe brass-ring offer. Grab it, at your leisure.

Have you read Sextrology? Now available as an e-book.

Gemini

In a spirit of surrender, you let your guard down and have a few guileless laughs. You’re free from the compulsion that every move you make must have a financial or professional  pay off.  All thanks to a stellium of planets in Pisces. This week brings reunions, likely with childhood cronies. Reminiscing is healthy. It puts you in touch with your innocent goals and essential desires. By Wednesday, a Moon-Mercury conjunct needs proof you esteem yourself highly. So exhibit less social climbing and increased presence of mind.

Cancer

With a slew of planets in Pisces you’re a micro-manager run amok, administering to every detail, organizing all you survey into a system of überfunctionality. Just be easy on poor, less efficient souls. Minions in your midst can be overly sensitive. Even usually unflappable colleagues can unravel under your microscope. Better to channel tinkering into helping intimates with inner conflicts. Here you’re a source of solace, not stress. The New Moon, Tuesday, intensifies your own need for intimacy to a near desperation.

Leo

Expanding your grey matter is now priority one. With more fusion of Mercury (the thinker) and Chiron (the healer), you’re urged to give your reptilian brain a break—you’ve got hoarding down cold—letting your higher mind trip out on existential searches for a sustainable belief system. This entails culture exposure and something called books. Claustrophobic sensations don’t stem from being smothered in relationships, but from a narrowing in the space between your ears. Act on impulses to further education or travel.

Virgo

Mercury opposing Mars challenges you to be magnanimous in dealings. So drop your guard along with moldering grudges. You have hatchets to bury dating back to Y2K. What you mightn’t realize is that broken bonds still take up emotional energy that should be allotted for thriving relationships. Thursday, a Uranus-Moon mash-up offers the role of a lifetime: Bigger person. It’s a part you can play to a great many. And, you hear that? It’s the sound of squeaky clean karma. Note: others’ forgiveness is not in your control.

Starsky + Cox, Zodiac with a "Z", at Joe's Pub, March 23rd. Get your tickets here!

Libra

Venus is extricating herself from Pluto to be blissfully unbeholden, likewise waving a soothing wand over you, instilling calm and a totally bearable lightness of being. You can detach from drama, kicking into observer mode. People buzz around you in top speed, while you go in slow motion. At least this is our visualization for you. It works like a wee spell for decelerating time. It also functions as a love potion to attract individuals desiring self-contained mates or, even, dates. The New Moon, Tuesday, eases cash flow.

Scorpio

They say, to be great is to be misunderstood, but what do they know. Sometimes people talk shite. And they need to be set straight and gingerly brushed out of the way of that greatness. With ruler Pluto letting go of Venus’s rose-colored grip, you can feel good about addressing any bad vibes you sense, between friends especially. Signs show you only have half the story regarding past conflicts, and that you must hear both sides. On domestic issues where you’ve remained mute, it’s time to speak or forever hold a grudge.

Sagittarius

Signs show being of service tops your agenda, while you are further from servitude than ever. With a planetary party in Pisces, you contribute to the well being of others on all metaphysical levels. Mainly by extricating yourself from co-dependent dynamics with them. Examine, too, the subtle ways you’re self-destructive. And though textbooks say you’re all about adventure, you’ve been stuck in a routine (read: rut) and must branch out and embrace new activities and ideologies. The Sagittarians, they are a-changing.

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Each of the 300 possible pairings, gay and straight, are explored in miniature.

Capricorn

Tension mounts. And past traumas and tribulations come home to roost for one reason only: So you can finally release them. Pluto will break free from Venus, removing blocks to much-needed catharsis. Resist anesthetizing feelings. You should be nearly speaking in tongues to voice emotions that have eaten at you for eons.  Authority issues come to the fore, as you tell tyrannical overlords where to get off. But temper temper. Calmly define boundaries not to be crossed. You only lose crucial debates when you lose your Cap cool.

Aquarius

Your life path becomes clearer as Uranus is free from restraint. And is it ever: You have a fresh sense of direction and a newly liberated spirit to follow it. Planet moves ease your daily grind and facilitate solo pursuits you’ve kept on a shelf. Even in partnerships, autonomy furthers common goals. Your professional identity is more clearly defined, to yourself and others. As a rule, now, you’re sanctioned to choose luxury avenues over budget ones in marketing your wares. Expect dual elevation in social and career status.

Pisces

All feels heightened with your sign packed with planets, meaning you’re at the height of your powers, too. You have a bring-it-on attitude such that even this current crunch time feels like a working holiday. You metamorphose, seemingly overnight, from most- to least-stressed individual on the astrological block. Expression of talents is fast-tracked as are creative inroads you make in your career. A Mars-Mercury opposition inspires multiple sparks of genius. Move quickly on your big ideas. They have legs and wings.

Haute Astrology

By Starsky + Cox

February 12 through 18, 2012

BORN THIS WEEK: Joseph Gordon-Levitt  ( February 17, 1981)

In Greek mythology, the male Waterbearer is Ganymede, a beautiful boy love-object whose appeal was so surpassing that the macho chief god Zeus couldn’t resist swooping down, in the form of an eagle, to get at that booty. Like all fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) the Waterbearer magnetizes people to him; and he projects a youthfulness and accessibility, in keeping with his archetype. People always say that Aquarians are “out there”; and indeed they are often beyond being labeled or pigeon holed. Aquarian men, regardless of their sexual orientation, are generally accepting of pointed attention from admirers of any gender, and whether in their work as artists or in life, or both, they find power in letting others consider them rather up for grabs. It’s one way that astrology’s little guru amasses so many followers. Oh, hi Ashton. A list of desirably uncategorical Aquarian men includes James Dean, Neal Cassady, Paul Newman, Billie Joe Armstrong, Barry Diller (at least DVF thinks so), Elijah Wood, Darren Aronofsky, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Wagner, Abraham Lincoln, Kutch and this week’s embraceable birthday boy Joseph Gordon-Levitt whose mysterious skin has captured many an imagination.

"Aquarian men, regardless of their sexual orientation...find power in letting others consider them up for grabs. "

Aries

Seeming at the mercy of others’ whims, if not their slings and arrows, you’re building spiritual muscle as a gaggle of planets gather in Pisces. Not only can you take the proverbial it, you don’t have to dish it out as much. This sets you apart from those who can’t as easily transcend more fraught situations and environments. You now silently assume positions of leadership, oh so subtly giving lame-o’s the heave ho. And that’s just on the home front. Professional detractors fumble and fall away as new disciples flock.

Taurus

With Venus conjunct Uranus, you are bombarded with information now as plans change, rearrange, and caveats and amendments abound. This inspires vulnerability, making you feel fenced in by circumstance, urging you to cultivate freedom from within, which, by gum, is a mechanism you’ve long needed to develop. To boot, you are challenged to redefine your idea of fun and pleasure seeking. Nature imparts more thrills than social scenes. Where you once kowtowed to air-suckers of scenes, you now make your own.

Starsky + Cox ZODIAC with a "Z", at Joe's Pub, NYC, March 23rd. Get your tickets here now!

Gemini

Life is now in the details. Not easy to remember with Mercury lost in a stellium of other planets, cooking up bigger plans and successes than you’ve enjoyed to date. This also fritzes communication with loved ones who may tag you too big for your jeggings. What heaven life will be if you pay closer attention to intimates, keeping a tighter rein on finances—resist the urge to utter “it’s on me”—at this moment when your career star is rising (and what hell if caution’s thrown to the wind, and relationships, under the bus).

Cancer

No more suffering fools. The Moon Saturn mash-up now ensures you’re given proper respect, and that puffed-up pests are put in their place. So what if you come across as selfish—why doubt your own generosity just because you don’t flaunt it? You’re not that needy. Still, Venus conjunct Uranus demands tangible tribute as proof that your powers of attraction are at their peak. (You accept PayPal.) In love, you’re ultra serious. Those seeking your commitment sigh relief. Those skirting the topic get a metaphoric pink slip.

Leo

With the Sun conjunct Neptune the world is your oyster. But don’t rest on your pearls of wisdom. It’s time to string them together into a single belief system. You can change tack later, but, for now, be exacting in your moral code. There are big decisions, and possible exits, to make, on principle. And you have no energy to spare on helping others navigate their own ethical paths. Especially those running perpendicular with your own. At a crossroads with a family member, you can kick them to the curb for and circle back later.

Have you read Sextrology?

Virgo

A stellium of planets in Pisces bids you examine areas of life where you cut yourself excess slack. You must strive for innovation in your career, where running with others’ ideas has only gotten you so far. Pluto’s transformative energy is aimed at your love life, wherein you must think less about the receipt of affection and feel your way toward expressing it more, without measure. If you find this too great a challenge, you may be barking up the wrong relationship tree. Is your love object even aware of your feelings?

Libra

You’re provided wiggle room with deadlines now, but beware of wasting the grace. The Moon conjunct Saturn prescribes positioning your nose close to the grindstone, as the week hurls huge monkey wrenches into the mix. Let’s see how your Libran grace works under fire. It’s not just us watching: There are bigwigs eyeing you for a plum opportunity. If you can just be yourself, even in the spotlight, you meet with surpassing success. Don’t let flattery lure you into stagnant cul de sacs. Destiny lies in the direction of your desire.

Scorpio

With Venus squaring Pluto you adjust to heavy issues in the midst of unmitigated joy. It’s hard internal work, but you’re being alchemically altered, made of tougher stuff than you were this time last year. And for all the struggle, you will admit, you wouldn’t revert to old marshmallow ways. Come Friday, Venus releases Uranus from her grip signaling a return to big easy trappings.  Just remember how bad for you some good things can be. In fact,  you may be ready to kick silly destructive habits you’ve held onto since teen age.

Sagittarius

Although you usually mask your scene-making with a dose of mystique, that’s too much work now with an unaspected Mars in your sector of public image. This lets the air out of all the ways and means you take, or present, yourself too seriously. And it lets the seams show on your wheeling and dealing. But some healthy deconstruction doesn’t hurt you a bit. Indeed, it hits home the fact you have nothing to hide. Your personal style, too, is a bit undone. Funny how people find that supersexy, and trip over themselves to say so.

Throughout February, Starsky + Cox are seeing clients for private consultations in Los Angeles

Capricorn

Venus squaring Pluto in Capricorn means you’re challenged this week to let internal transformation—unearthing the essence within—be a simple and pleasurable process. You’re poised to project farthest-reaching goals into the ether, imagining no limitations. Remove the word but and all n’t contractions from your vocabulary. Cash flow is not a consideration at this stage. Just get a fix on your dreams, the more impossible the better. Now is about letting highest aspirations fly so they can land and take root in the future.

Aquarius

From cleaning out real and metaphorical closets to automating your digs to futuristic proportions, you modernize as you minimize. Venus letting go its hold on Uranus is rocking your creative life. A once vague interest becomes a solid new platform from which to stretch artistic muscles and reach for starry achievement. Taken together, efficient simplicity in your personal life boldly animates your professional world with radical moves, resonant ideas and widening appeal. We call dibs on a piece of new work.

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Each of the 300 possible pairings, gay and straight, are explored in miniature.

Pisces

With a storm of major planets gathering in Pisces, you should zero in on areas where you lack necessary knowledge or expertise to make yourself indispensable. This is key in both career and philanthropic endeavors. Mercury facilitates daily routines you dread; as flirtation becomes a daily requirement. Creative work calls for isolation. But Mercury compensates by playing PR agent, altering your image to repackage you as an accessible, wo/man of the people. Which you are as much as is any martyr heralded by the hoipoloi.

The SCOPE

        by Starsky + Cox

February 5th through 11th, 2012

BORN THIS WEEK   Laura Dern (February 10, 1967)

Aquarius, and the Eleventh House it rules, represents evolutionary energy, which people of this sun-sign personify. Last week, we rattled off a list of avant-gardist men. This week, we are looking at Aquarians who are both ahead of the curve and eligible for a gym membership at Curves. A list of big-headed break-through Waterbearer babes who rewrote the rules includes Rosa Parks, Virginia Woolf, Yoko Ono, Ida Lupino, Colette, Ayn Rand, Betty Friedan, Susan B. Anthony, Gertrude Stein, Germaine Greer, Helen Gurley Brown and Corazon Aquino. If male Waterbearers are all John the Baptists, lost in their revelations, then Aquarius women, like Salome, are revelations themselves. Not to say that this far-out sign doesn’t boast its share of bubble-heads or smart ladies who know how to play so—Carol Channing, Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Paris Hilton, Vanna White, Portia DeRossi, Heather Graham, Emma Bunton, Jennifer Aniston, and Tina Louise,  to name a slew. And Laura Dern’s beyond genius, compassionate space-cadet character on “Enlightened” packs a one-two punch that constitutes the kind of Aquarian typecasting we applaud.

"If male Waterbearers are all John the Baptists, lost in their revelations, then Aquarius women, like Salome, are revelations themselves."

Aries

Introspection is in order to address certain excesses, making strides to temper them. With Venus conjunct Uranus you first stick to the story that “hell is others”, convinced that isolation is the salve for stresses. But by Tuesday, the Full Moon gets you thinking that perhaps the distress call is coming from inside the house. Unlike similar realizations in the past, this a-ha moment doesn’t inspire dread but enthusiasm. You are so ready to spill your guts, creatively, instead of drinks or metaphorical milk you finally stop crying over.

Taurus

Though your ability to realize singular goals is to be applauded, Venus entering Aries urges you to take others’ input more seriously. It would be refreshing to hear friends say you’re a good listener. And playing second fiddle, or co-starring on a work project, is not only a preferred paradigm for making bank and winning praise: It provides opportunity to explore the benefits of a B-type personality—a slower pulse, more books and movies, fewer incarcerations. Also expect a new wave of tenderness to hit home, emotionally.

Gemini

In business, you have renewed appreciation for those below and above you on ye olde  ladder of success. And you’ve no time for bs, whether encountering or shoveling it. Saturn retrograde by Tuesday says you’ve lessons to learn. Mad creative skills require development—complacency becomes a killer. Also, don’t worry about bringing others along for the ride toward success. Intentionally or not, they can sandbag it. Venus square Pluto by Saturday urges healthy detachment from siblings and other strangers.

Cancer

The Moon opposing Pluto causes your mind to wander and alight on serious alterations you must make to your life. Moving house is an instinct worth pursuing, as is cementing or redefining your career role. Here, it seems you do the work, but don’t have the perks that go along with it. Wait to verbalize thoughts until Venus enters Aries, Wednesday, when you speak with authority and distinction, and it’s near impossible to refuse you. Relationship imbalances also come to light. Power must be equalized or shut down.

Leo

With the Leo Full Moon this week, you’re all intuition, taking situations in like a sponge, biding your time and weighing all options. You reveal nothing, nor should you; while others can’t help but confess secrets to you. Still, you mustn’t jump to conclusions, as appearances are deceiving. You know if someone’s hiding something, but can miss the mark as to why. Expect the best, financially, but prepare for the worst. Doing so heads off stress at the pass. In love, you can now better articulate feelings you’ve been stewing.

Virgo

You are now wont to indulge harmless interests—some may call them vices—that have pursued you since childhood. Competition is one such drug you cannot resist. But Venus conjunct Uranus highlights your subversive moves and illustrates how not playing fair equals a lack of faith in natural abundance. A vision of the universe as a barren landscape is a self-fulfilling prophecy. While fortune smiles on those who give and thus embody the notion that there is more than enough bounty to go around. No more being a sore winner!

Libra

With Saturn retrograde in your sign it’s actually a good time to get to the bottom of nagging mind-body issues. Just as you manifest mental unrest, you can rid yourself of much of it through visualizing aches and pains lifting, evaporating or dematerializing. Areas of weakness can be strengthen by the I-magi-nation, sewing up so-called damage with ethereal golden threads. Try it. In the seen world, the Full Leo Moon, Tuesday,  puts you at the head of a group of motivated indies, or sets you on a solo path they will follow.

Scorpio

Uranus conjuncts Venus in the part of your chart that governs both artistry and love. Observe how creativity peaks just as things heat up, romantically.  And how amorous you become when courtship with the muses is going strong. The key to success in either arena, now, entails keeping a foothold in innocence. Don’t give in to the knee-jerk notion that sex sells, or that you need to rush things in a new relationship. An existing bond also benefits from revisiting guileless pleasures like hand-holding or doing it in an elevator.

Sagittarius

The Saturn-Jupiter opposition blends your need for excitement and routine into ritualized experiences that empower you. You no longer don’t need rebel against tradition, nor have insane expectations that those with institutionalized behavior will suddenly show latent humanity. If anything, you watch with bemused detachment as interpersonal dramedy unfolds on the career front, wistful, but so grateful, that you’re not the cockeyed optimist of yore. You’re too busy scoring maverick success in spite of mediocrity.

Capricorn

Making career strides, you inspire confidence and more than a bit of envy. Stop and smell the milestones before mentally grabbing at what’s next.  By the same token, don’t hock your house to fund a self-celebration. Saturn retrograde by Tuesday is designed to keep you middle-grounded. Highs are just as dicey as lows when it comes to emotional life. External circumstance should have no real bearing on the weather within—which is mostly sunny with a chance of precipitation, that is to say, a speeding up of your efforts.

Aquarius

Senses are working overtime—a remedy for living too much in your head. Now is about indulging your body. You may even be too rigid with exercise and in need of delighting appetites. Uranus conjunct Venus calls for new expressions that run counter to the must-do/must-have loop in your brain. Leave open-ended hours for venturing forth and seeing what happens. Just say yes to anything on offer that provides natural stimulation. And embrace your inner Luddite, when possible, unplugging any gadget invented after 1972.

Pisces

The Full Moon on Tuesday spotlights the fact that others invested hope in your wild promises and expect you to deliver. Your challenge is to not just follow through, but to do so without martyr routines or mildly bitching about it. What you think about other people is none of their business. Telegraphing your thoughts and emotions doesn’t have the desired effect of expressing a sense of importance. It makes you seem needy and a bit neurotic, if anything. Being true to your word magnetizes that much more fortune to you.

BORN THIS WEEK Philip Glass, January 31, 1937

With an astrological pedigree that includes Copernicus, Galileo, Darwin, Dickens, Edison and Jules Verne, it is safe to say that Aquarian men are in the business of pushing the envelope and going where no man has gone before in their fields. Charles Lindbergh did it in the air, Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron did it on the field (and got candy bars for their efforts), James Joyce ultra did it in print, Chekhov did it on the stage, James Dean did it on the screen, Jackson Pollock did it on canvas, and Philip Glass does it with music. In counterpoint to the old-guard of Saturn-ruled Capricorn, Aquarius is primarily ruled by Uranus and represents the vanguard, creating new forms that diverge from the traditional, tried and true.

"At first, Aquarians can be seen as weird or freaky—John the Baptists, the Waterbearer, can be alone in the wilderness of their convictions until others ultimately accept and applaud."

Aries

Freedom of expression is in the stars as Mercury cuts loose of Mars. This provides the impetus to convey feelings creatively, while faculties to do so may need developing. The point is you feel your full potential for artistic manifestation via inhibition in doing so. Now’s time to get you over this hump. Don’t think. Just grab some paint or clay or a blowtorch or, better yet, unlikely materials for artistic manifestation, and go to town. Even if your art is commerce, you need this kind of release. Hobbies can become jobbies.

Taurus

You loom large, exuding unabashed confidence and signature superiority. A sudden switch may see you in charge of those who previously bossed you, while people working for you may need to be reminded of the fact. Still, the Taurus Moon conjunct Jupiter, Monday, means you can only really wield power by putting personal vendettas aside. Rivals become vassals who do your bidding in exchange for championing their causes. Sustaining authority entails delegating responsibility, empowering those in your keep.

Gemini

Supernatural forces swirl around you, like so many fairies, which isn’t lost on you air sprites of the zodiac. Mercury breaks its T-square to Saturn and Jupiter, breathing life into goodly intentions, particularly those aimed at helping community efforts. You’re guided away from so-called influential people to whose nasty antics you turned a blind eye. Give credit and affection to supporters you’ve underappreciated. Be mindful of money, Thursday, when Mercury trine Gemini Moon can let it slip through your fingers.

Cancer

With the Moon conjunct Jupiter, opposing Saturn, you’re intolerant of puffery, popping situations full of hot air with your pointed remarks. You’re particularly suspicious of people plopping you in an ivory tower. Significant others will be targets of probes should they employ extra politesse. You clock overcompensation a mile away. And you won’t be talked out of trusting your instincts. Right? Neptune in Pisces (for about 13 years) from Friday insists you’d sooner take a powder, now,  than live any longer in a fool’s paradise.

Leo

Purging nasty habits, kicking wellness routines into high gear, the Sun conjunct Mercury illuminates which circumstances in your life most need correcting. Seek synthesis of love and desire in a single relationship and steer clear of pity partiers, acknowledging the fact you’ve been one of them. Try to invest your nutritive nature in arenas where it can do the most good, for you and others in your sphere. Emotional turmoil of the past has wrought pearls of wisdom in you, which you’re now hard-pressed not to cast before swine.

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Each of the 300 possible pairings, gay and straight, are explored in miniature.

Virgo

Snafus in plans are blessings in disguise that keep you from multi-tasking your way to a complete neuron burnout. With Jupiter trining Pluto, tensions within a large group or organization now come to a head. Do not hesitate to close a door. Whatever you’re doing: If it feels like work, it’s probably not working. Yours should be a path of little resistance. Time to focus on solo ambitions? Uh, yeah. You’re meant integrate joy and work so you don’t get to a point where you overindulge in fun to escape. That becomes a trap in itself.

Libra

As Neptune digs into Pisces for the next 13 years, you divine a new order emerging. Taking short cuts is passé and blatant honesty is the new black. Expect a shakedown on the work front by week’s end, and prepare to be an open book. You may go out on a limb socially. And there’s nothing wrong with running with a faster crowd, so long as it’s going somewhere. Hobnob with more mover-shakers, if only to see that being one entails more rest than rambunction, more wheatgrass than wine, more hard work than hubris.

Scorpio

Jupiter trine Pluto portends a gestation period, promising deliverance from outmoded thoughts. Give lingering endeavors your all to bring them to completion by mid week. Then clear the decks, and your desk, for drafting new ideas. You’re readying for a directorial role. Leading others has never been a burning motivation, but it is a necessary formation to achieve desired goals. A few ideas you put into the ether now get a green light. It takes a village to manifest them. And some village people to make them fierce.

Sagittarius

After trying to please clamoring coworkers, clients and cronies, the focus is back on you. Mercury releases Jupiter from a T-square, suffusing you with imagination. A relief for those with an artist’s soul who’ve been looking through bookkeeping eyes. There is a return to innocence as you experience unfettered feelings you can sustain. This requires refusing to fill every free moment, moving, instead from one to the next. It may also entail hosting a Jacks tournament, hitting a roller rink, or rereading A Wrinkle in Time.

Capricorn

It’s easy to say you’ve let healthy routines slip. But what metaphorical muscle have you built of late? Signs show a lot. As Neptune returns to Pisces, you too feel an urge to relive more relaxed, perhaps rebellious, even radical past ways. That’s your choice. But we don’t think you’ve brought your A-game this past year just so you could regress at this, a tipping, point. Remember: you’ve become a radiant, self-realized being to please nobody but yourself.  So you only let yourself down by dropping the proverbial ball. Don’t do it.

Aquarius

Networking is key to career moves, yet you’re tempted to keep hiding yourself away. Mercury conjunct Sun in Aquarius should snap you out of seclusion, facilitating the realization that: including intimates in your dealings doesn’t dilute the energy of your plans. Others don’t grasp the fact you haven’t exactly been alone, but, rather, in the kind company of strangers. But you can now step into the light with all your activities, fueled by the confidence that some champions for your causes are much closer than you think.

Pisces

With ruler Neptune returning home to Pisces, where it lodges for about 13 years, you are more empathetic than usual, and without the pesky fear of becoming unduly entangled in alliances with others. Your compassion for people has always been sincere, but, being burned time and again by the aura vampires of the planet, you’ve been keeping new characters at bay. But now you’re free to bond with fresh faces who see you for who you truly are, a psychically attuned friend and mentor requiring a cushion of personal space.

January 22-28, 2012

BORN THIS WEEK Ellen DeGeneres (January 26, 1958)

Aquarius women often look like Tweety Bird, with their beaming lightbulb heads gleaming, lit, as they are, from within. Heather Graham, Christina Ricci, Mena Suvari, Mischa Barton, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, Florence Henderson—Waterbearing women of all ages are eternally youthful. The mythological female cupbearer was Hebe, goddess of youth, who married the mortal Heracles (Hercules), elevating him to god status. We see her in the character Stella (Star), in A Streetcar Named Desire, wedded as she is to the animalistic Stanley. In Tarot, The Star card depicts the lady waterbearer. A star befits the fixed-air status of Aquarius. Air symbolizes ideas and so fixed-air equals Truth. Another descending goddess is Iris, goddess of the rainbow, a symbol of diversity, the principle expressed by the sign’s ruler Uranus—Iris brought godlike understanding, truths, to mankind, traveling down along her rainbow. Salome’s dance of the seven veils, for each color of the rainbow, invites divine communion, with the waterbear John the Baptist. But he lost his head. In life, Aquarius women are like these descending goddesses, bringing elevating thoughts and ideas to the masses. Little wonder the big O and Ellen DeGeneres are the key purveyors of mass communication in our culture. They will not, however, subscribe to patriarchal rule. They are prime movers, in and out of relationships.

"In life, Aquarius women are like these descending goddesses, bringing elevating thoughts and ideas to the masses."

Aries

Redemption is yours now. And there’s truth to that darkness before the dawn jazz, so hang in there. With the New Moon on Monday, you receive forgiveness from friends who claim you’ve been fairweatherish and reprieves from work wardens who’ve found you whining. But the big boost comes on Friday when Mercury enters Aquarius. This singles you you out for a promotion, award or some perk. Just don’t turn your nose up at what appears to be a lateral move. It is technically on the diagonal of an steep upward spiral.

Taurus

A sure way to see plans fall through, now, is to push for their happening. The Sun and Moon square Jupiter and Saturn causes shifts in status between you and significants. Embrace your authority in partnerships without necessarily wielding it. Let colleagues make power plays but resist giving in to competitive urges. You gain through concession and asking little in return. Taurus narcissism is an asset and works best when you master emotions. In this way you magnetize desired outcomes, and a certain someone, to you.

Gemini

With the Sun in conjunct with ruler Mercury, you possess extra insight into mass consciousness. Projects that require tapping into the zeitgeist get a cosmic green light. But individual connections can get short shrift. Best to let loved ones know in advance that you will be emotionally M.I.A.. The last thing you need is a pointed seminar on the  shortcomings of today’s Gemini. You also now reclaim parts of your being put on a shelf.  Old plans may be dusty, or talents a bit rusty, but you revisit them to delight and success.

Cancer

Despite differences with coworkers and/or close family members, you must function as a united front. It’s the only way to ward off hostile takeovers, rampaging relatives, or other barbarians at the gate. The New Moon, Monday, may bring confusion and accusations, to which your response must be: “We’ll talk about it next week.” By then, whatever the “thingy” is will have blown over. Mercury trine Mars creates a lovely atmosphere for Moonchillens come Saturday: It cues a solo excursion to reacquaint with your(new)self.

Leo

Expect smooth sailing for any literal reconstruction or repair. And that goes double for ideological new designs-for-living. Creativity bleeds into your domestic sector, opening the door on imaginative modes of habitation. Mars grinding to retrograde, by Wednesday,  focuses you inward. Where you dabbled in spiritual disciplines, you now ardently devote to them. Metaphysical workouts seem plain old practical. They reinforce your belief that life is sweetest when you’re still and meditative. Others applaud flipping your off switch.

Virgo

Certain victory is yours, as a long-pursued goal is achieved. Just remember, this is a single step in a series of triumphs you must achieve. So don’t rest on laurels, but redouble efforts, especially until Wednesday with Mars retrograde. You’re not much of a gambler. Good thing as it’s best to employ restraint and impose limits on indulging your need for Lady Luck to smile on you. If a fortune is truly yours to make, it can only be had on the noblest of terms. A mate or would-be date is trying to get through, so open a channel.

Have you read Sextrology?

Libra

With Venus largely unaspected this week you might feel unloved, pointing a finger at this friend or that who doesn’t feel enough for you. But self-exam. Is this defensive stance keeping affection at bay? And what love are you actually giving? The Saturn-Sun square may call you on the carpet. Do yourself a favor and stop keeping tabs on who does what for whom in your personal bonds. Give of yourself freely. Or don’t. Maybe you’re not as warm and fuzzy as you feel you are. Or maybe you need new objects of loving attention.

Scorpio

Your subtle brand of persuasion tempers pushiness with aplomb, brute force with benevolence. More than anyone, you feel freedom in Mars retrograde by Wednesday.  It slows experience down for you, providing more control: your favorite thing.  Those you’re seeking to sway scarcely notice crawling into the palm your hand. That said, you must be a harder nut than ever with principles. Muster extra backbone to slap down bullies. They’ll tremble, mumble apologies and even thank you with an “I needed that.”

Sagittarius

Keep expectations low in family dealings. The New Moon, Monday sees feelings frayed if worn on your sleeve. Cut emotional losses with the dysfunctional; and be thankful you work daily for increased serenity. You do that, right? Well expect a pop quiz on the subject. and remember: people disappoint only if you let them. Meanwhile, check out all the smiling faces offering healthy love and support. Do they not deserve attention more than the dementors? Earthly delights impart less a thrill as you wax ascetic by weekend.

Capricorn

With the New Moon, you take up more real and metaphoric space. After a week of juggling and adapting to shifting social and professional sands, you are back at the helm biz-wise, in the headlines, buzz-wise. The Sun mediating the opposition of Jupiter and Saturn leads to understanding that your biggest, splashiest dreams are the ones destined for success. As a result, you’ll weed out buds who try to tone you down, while going on the make for other people’s money to invest in those light bulbs flashing in your brain.

Private consultation appointments available for February in LA

Aquarius

It’s important to remember that the extra work you’re churning out is a result of your asking the universe for more such opportunities.  With the Sun sextiling Uranus, prepare ye the way of global success for an original idea of which you must be visibly proud. Humility is actually a liability. You must act as-if you already have all that you need— cash to burn, the ultimate pad, packed Vuitton luggage—as reality has every intention of catching up with your convictions, though they be imagined. There’s magic in that word!

The companionship companion to Sextrology. Each of the 300 possible pairings, gay and straight, are explored in miniature.

Pisces

Compassion is tantamount to tough love. Remember that, as you’re on the receiving end of it now. You may labor under the misapprehension you’re the gods’ gift to the universe. You are, in fact, one of twelve. And though you are to be praised for the sacrifices you make, particularly for those less fortunate, being messianic can be an excuse for being, well, plain old messy. So clean up your own act before spiffing up others’. And don’t insult the cosmic intelligence by claiming you’re undone as a result of giving too much.

The SCOPE

By Starsky + Cox

Week of January 15 through 21

BORN THIS WEEK Betty White (January 17, 1922)

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (Greek: Cronus), named for the Titan god of the Golden Age, whose lady wife was called Rhea (she took Goat form). These Titans archetypally “live” in the sun-sign Capricorn people of this world. Just as they energize any part of our individual birthcharts where Capricorn and Saturn fall. It’s all about energy. And Capricorn people are the “greats” of the zodiac, which is why the Titans are the “grand” mothers and fathers in mythology. Capricorns may appear serious, reserved or retiring, but they employ the element of surprise. Saturn is old-father Time, which is always on Capricorn’s side. They are the tortoise to our hare. Surprise, they won! They are the sleeper successes who transcend the milieus in which they live and operate. Betty White embodied a happy homemaker from whom one wouldn’t expect lewd remarks, as well as a seeming simp who always had the last wise word. Capricorn is the sign of the greats in other ways too. Mohammed Ali is the “Greatest Of All Time” (spells goat). Elvis is the eternal king. Martin Luther King, Jr. took us all to the mountain from whence we still perceive his big picture perspective. George Burns was the eternal god-father of comedy. And, at 90 years young, we have our very own grand mother who’d goose you as soon as zing you.  Nobody does it all—caring, comedy, life—better than Betty.

"Saturn is old-father Time, which is always on Capricorn's side. They are the tortoise to our hare. Surprise, they won! "

Aries

Being bored takes nerve. With Uranus unaspected by other bodies, there’s no excuse to not get yours in motion. And don’t pawn off laziness as ennui. Let’s get to the root of it: Fear. Of failure and success.  This may be a familiar tune. But the fact you can’t hide this now is the real news! You have a rare opportunity to be comforted and advised. Fear again. You’re always there for others, but letting them deliver pep talks and life lessons frightens you. Or do you just feel you’re the only one qualified to offer such guidance?

Taurus

Probe situations for hidden agendas and would-be caveats. Venus conjunct Neptune spells opportunity for change and growth wrapped in a wee bit of mystery or confusion. Don’t let that stop you. Consider it a lesson in exploring the intricacies of circumstance you often glaze over. And it’s a good time to turn your investigative gaze inward, too, getting to the source of, and gaining control over, reactive impulses. When the Sun enters Aquarius, Friday, you feel that anger is an energy you can channel constructively.

Gemini

Mercury conjunct Pluto allows you to get to the bottom of issues, and you feel all is starting to move in the right direction. But that checklist of requirements for happiness you tote around in your brain? Especially the part comprised of a partner’s to-do’s? It must be ritually buried. For you, if/then thinking is a trap. So, find happiness in accepting the way things are, instead of relegating it to some future characterized by having X many ducks in a row.  And avoid quacky self-help lit—listen to your gut. Oh, and us.

Starsky + Cox at Joe's Pub, NYC, March 23rd, tickets on sale now! Click here to reserve...

Cancer

With the Sun trine Mars not only is your libido tweaked, but your entire psyche is rebooted. Deep-seated issues and weighted secrets don’t inspire their typical fear. Pluto conjunct Mercury, named for the god-conductor of souls, allows you to journey into your own underworld, to face such truths you dreaded would undo you. What you emerge with are stories, however you choose to express them. Because you can go so deep you more confidently dwell on the surface where life seems less chaotic and rather more rhythmic.

Leo

Artistry is yours. And we don’t mean painting deer herds by number or crocheting plant holders. Though, now you could elevate such creations to museum worthiness. Venus conjunct Neptune means transcending the material or ordinary becomes the focus. In a sense, all is art, or artifice. You shape circumstance to your liking, with freer license and fuller authority.  Even the great masters among you have been in micromanagement mode, keeping it all together. But you’re ready to color outside the proverbial lines.

Virgo

Seeds of fortune are sprinkled in your path, but you might miss them less you stay tuned. With Saturn opposing Jupiter, you may label chance nuggets of information “worthless”. But keep an open mind to what’s on offer to you now; and by the time Mercury detaches from Pluto, Wednesday you can realize the full potential of what at first seems like vague opportunities with strings attached. Meanwhile, give kudos to those cooking up their own recipes for success. It reflects poorly on you to pooh-pooh golden eggs you didn’t hatch.

Private consultation appointments available for January in NYC and February in LA

Libra

Sibling(-esque) relationships play a key role now, so seek to forge deeper ties with actual sisses and bros, and to deepen the familial affection of friendships. The tricky bit is in romance, and it’s a recurring theme: Beware of turning a potential affair into a cozy slice of camaraderie, devoid of all mystique. Or a marriage into a business deal. Venus conjunct Neptune and Chiron, the planetoid of healing, urges you to remain aspirational in love and stop projecting familiar dynamics from your upbringing onto intimate bonds.

Scorpio

You’re materially minded for starters, but money is now a bit of an obsession. As Pluto conjunct Mercury highlights shared resources, you are poised to have your purse filled by patrons or invest yourself in others’ projects, confident of major pay off. But be diligent in your research—don’t just take what others bring to the table.  You’re now brilliant at group collaborations, not typically a strong suit. And may be put in charge of those you revere as heroes or mentors, which is emotionally twisty, but you handle it with grace.

Have you read Sextrology?

Sagittarius

In deciding between the road less taken and the path of least resistance, Saturn opposing Jupiter bids you consider the paradox in each. Uncharted territory mightn’t be the jungle you imagine, while well trodden paths could be pitted by others’ notions, putting wear and tear on your singular motivations. We’re saying take the first one, you got that right? When Mercury is free of Pluto, Wednesday, it will bring an emotional breakthrough. This is the best time to recommit yourself to practices engaging your higher mind or third eye.

Capricorn

Where you felt you had few choices, you now have more than you can shake a stick at. This could apply to career, your address, social circles or an educational direction. Knowing you,  right now, it’s likely be all of the above. The Sun T-squaring Saturn and Jupiter says you can parlay daily shake-ups in routine into sustainable life experience. All you have to do is embrace and move through so-called setbacks, not avoid or reject them. If you hear yourself complain, then you’re not letting the magic grow from the manure.

Aquarius

You are ready to rub your elbows raw. You needn’t even explain to fair-weather friends that it’s cosmically all about finding your true tribe, not social climbing, as they are wont to label it. Uranus in free-float gives you devil-may-care license and easy entree into whatever enclave you desire. And, yes, take a leadership role on a committee or for an event, especially as regards education reform or a similar means of empowering through knowledge. But if you give into shirking your responsibility, your reputation will suffer.

Pisces

An intuitive of the first order, you’re extra tapping into cultural rumblings now, with Venus conjunct ruler Neptune. Fantastic for those in the business of gauging trends and/or wishing to sell high what they sense will soon dip in value. Venus’ also makes you amorous—that’s an understatement—but you may experience a disconnect between liberated ideas on sex and relationships and the emotional capacity to realize them. So seek the synthesis of your evolving consciousness and your old-fashioned conscience.

The SCOPE

January 8-14 2012

BORN THIS WEEK Mary J. Blige ( January 11, 1971)

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, ol’ Father Time. It is the planet of endurance, preservation, resource and posterity, signifying certain time-less-ness. Capricorn is the cardinal-earth sign, symbolized by a mountain, an emblem of eternity. And women of the sign can be as iconic and aspirational as the Mata Horn (meaning: mother-mountain) itself. Paragons of style, especially, personifying the heights of fashionability, with nary a trace of trying to achieve it: They are, in fact, inimitable, be they insouciant supermodels like Kate Moss, Helena Christensen or Christy Turlington; or literal or figurative royalty like Kate Middleton, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Michelle Obama or Carla Bruni; accidental trendsetters like Mary J. Blige, Sienna Miller, Diane Keaton, Zooey Deschanel or Faye Dunaway; or veritable mountains of industry like Helena Rubenstein or Elizabeth Arden.

"Capricorn is the cardinal-earth sign, symbolized by a mountain, an emblem of eternity. And women of the sign can be as iconic and aspirational as the Mata Horn (meaning: mother-mountain) itself. "

Aries

With Venus conjunct Neptune, all eyes are suddenly on you, of late, the proverbial wo/man behind the curtain: The true story of your life requires honest telling, but as Aries can be legends in their own mind, you are who you imagine yourself to be. And a tad of fabrication is condoned: There is higher truth in the revision. And a soupcon of fabulosity goes along way to amp your public image. When Mercury cuts its ties with Jupiter and Uranus, Friday the 13th, you can score valuable real estate, whether real or metaphoric.

Taurus

The slate is being wiped clean of relationship issues. With the Full Moon, Monday, you’re prepared to move on, in, or out of, an existing bond. Meanwhile, resist the urge to mop the floor with an errant partner. And avoid rushing deals, as facts and figures need time to solidify. Restraint is your mantra at work. Trouble stems from forgetting this. There is much power in letting things slide—not that you can’t take notes of others’ shady behavior for later. Act as if most antics are beneath you and very soon they will be.

Gemini

You’re off the hook. And we’re not just employing vernacular here. You are saved from a grilling, goading or grounding for recent selfish actions, as would-be accusers turn a blind eye. For now. The Full Moon, Monday, begins a period of transparency. This will especially expose Gemini’s penchant for duplicity. So be forthright, for nobody will let you slide from this point on. We understand your scrappy street-wise methodology, but you must transcend it if you want your pie in the sky, not just scraps others throw you.

Cancer

With the Cancer Full Moon, Monday, you might feel emotionally left out to dry. The weekend may have brought bickering, surfacing age-old frustrations. About six months back, when dealing with such circumstance, you made a pact to put solo freedom first. So here, again: that crossroads. Now you’re mad as poop and not going to take it anymore. Creative work, self-expression, must be front-loaded. If it means retreating to a cabin in the woods, so be it.  And don’t play the blame game—nobody has stopped you but you.

Have you read Sextrology?

Leo

All new things surround you. With Venus conjunct Neptune, you’re nearly pathologically putting the past behind you. Elimination is your watchword, whether scanning and chucking boxes of memorabilia or relationships hinged on nostalgia. And you take up technology’s offer to streamline and simplify your life. Junk drawers don’t exist in the future. Aesthetically, too, steel and concrete no longer seem cold and impersonal, but promise order and calm. All this room is being made for your reemerging spiritual self.

Virgo

Is this thing on? You’re urged to be the voice of a community project, or otherwise communicate a collective agenda to a great many. But you have trepidation. Closer inspection reveals it’s due to your ego, which is hungry for kudos. Mercury now cuts its ties to Uranus and Mars, pushing you beyond hubris into humility. The upshot? You garner the most praise when you least require it. But you may still wear rose-colored glasses in relationships. Playing patron to a paramour? Or dallying with a dilettante?

Libra

Feeling flush can be its own reward. Monday, Mercury entering Capricorn inspires the urge to splurge. But acting on impulse can cause regretful backlash. Satisfaction comes from banking new resources and using what you have. The SCOPE

By Starsky + Cox

January 1-7, 2012

BORN THIS WEEK Mel Gibson (January 3, 1956)

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn whose energy is restrictive and conservative. That can be a good thing though it often manifests all too literally in men of the sign, via their political ideology and religious dogma. Capricorn is cardinal-earth—think of a mountain—and Goat guys feel “called,” like Moses, to lay down a bunch of laws. (Capricorn may adhere to guidelines because he feels inwardly chaotic). Saturn is the planet of tradition and the old-guard, which explains Mel Gibson’s old-testament views, of women, especially. Yet, Capricorn men may be caught breaking laws, toppling from that mountain. Saturn is named for the deposed king of the gods and Cap guys can experience drastic personal falls. Jim Bakker, Richard Nixon, J. Edgar Hoover, Rush Limbaugh, Cardinal O’Connor, Tiger Woods, Josef Stalin, Howard Stern are all Capricorns. Oh, and Phil Spector with that sick Moses post-Sinai hairdo.

"Saturn is the planet of tradition and the old-guard, which explains Mel Gibson's old-testament views, of women, especially. "

Aries

Stick to your principles, particularly as regards partnerships, deals and contracts. Now is not a time for you to suddenly learn to compromise. With Mercury square Mars, any resistance or flack you face strengthens your resolve to achieve singular objectives; and, in standing firm, you receive cosmic assists in the form of new allies and opportunities to realize your noblest visions. Venus conjunct Neptune, by Saturday, says a bond with a bud of the opposite sex could bloom nicely into a biz partnership fusing twin ideologies.

Taurus

You’re on a tear, getting your routine working like a well-oiled machine. With your ruler Venus now unaspected, you feel emotions bubbling to the surface. You’re subconsciously putting environment in order before facing a flood of inner commotion. Some material holdings may slip away, but letting them go spells freedom. If a situation feels like a struggle, seek its dissolution. Pluto conjunct Mercury, by Saturday, suggests that career progress entails deviating from the norm. It’s time to specialize or offshoot on your own.

Gemini

Mercury now trine the Moon puts you in a sort of daze. Sensual recollections preoccupy you in the day, while your nightly reveries become increasingly vivid, providing clues to psychological puzzles, as well as inspiration for creative projects. Meanwhile, the Sun conjunct Pluto conspires to raise self-esteem and the status others afford you—they are one and the same. Contempt you’ve had for those you label “success stories” has been a projection of inferiority feelings. Now you are inspired, not intimated, by fellow winners.

Cancer

The Moon trine Mercury calls for fast-talking and snap decisions. And don’t be surprised if you have to suddenly schedule a series of quick trips. Last week’s obstacles are mild impediments now, whether they be a busted car or a broken heart. Your love life takes a marked turn for the better as Venus sextiles Mercury by Thursday. Dream dates come knocking and undemonstrative mates mount shows of affection. Angst over deals, budgets or contracts are for naught. When it comes to biz, you’re a warrior not a worrier.

Leo

With Jupiter and Saturn in a stand-off, you feel you’re being grilled by suspicious minds. But appearances are deceiving. This may be part of a vetting process aimed at heaping increased power on your plate. Mercury square Mars then Uranus provides the emotional detachment you need in order to see, once and for all, actually, that nothing is personal. Though financial stakes are high with potential projects in the pipeline, you’re charting getaways. Before you go, make amends to those you lashed out at for no good reason.

Virgo

Moving and shaking is in the stars. So loosen the purse strings to spiff up a bit. And go for quality goods. Consider it an investment in your future. As Pluto conjuncts the Sun, pull out all stops to wow those who’ve got what you want and are in a position to give it to you. Especially investment money. It’s time to play with the big girls. And despite trepidation, you’ll discover how suited you are to high-stakes wheeling and dealing.  The more material-worldly you wax in public, the more spiritually focused you are in private.

Libra

You suddenly have more work, social opportunities and loving attention than you can shake a stick at. While leaner times of late taught you to be less picky, now you’re being schooled in the art of discernment. Do not fear employing the power of No. The trick is to decline offers without completely closing doors on those you shoot down, for now. The Sun and Pluto team up to plop you atop a pedestal, making you a guru to groupies and grand delusionists who think your good fortune can be theirs by osmosis. As if.

Have you read Sextrology?

Scorpio

Mercury square Mars makes you anything but judicious in expressing your opinions. And you don’t exactly soft-pedal when reporting bad news. To be sure, a bit of resentment may be at the root of releasing your steely statements. Perhaps if you felt more sanguine in your personal life, you wouldn’t be quite so good at telling others what you know they don’t want to hear. So button your lip when you can. Take stock of how rosy you have it, despite the fact life isn’t perfect. This should see you revel, alone, in other’s good fortune.

Sagittarius

Now is not to question why you are so happy. The issue is why you feel the other shoe must drop on your parade? Past patterns are just that. And you vanquish fear by being unabashedly joyful. Any bad that happens won’t be a direct result thereof. The Sun-Pluto conjunct triggers unexpected realizations, like: You may be tied to certain people only because you feel they need you. Not only is this probably not true. It also doesn’t make you a savior. In fact it may be a bit patronizing. And an excuse for not fostering yourself.

Capricorn

With Venus now fast and loose, a financial opportunity may be riskier than it appears. So avoid forking over money. Be mindful, too, of the words you employ—they have wings, so keep them positive—and if you feel you’ve spoken out of turn or even slightly slighted someone, swoop back in to do damage control. If your intentions aren’t bad, a misunderstanding can be headed off at the pass. If intentions were less than pure, make amends to avoid quakes in your social landscape. To utter is human, to shut it, divine.

The companionship "sidebar" to Sextrology. Each of the 300 possible pairings, gay and straight, are explored in miniature.

Aquarius

Get the show on the road. For some, this is a literal statement, as you must now dog and pony talents and wares to some corner of the world. For others, inner journeying is in the stars. With the Sun conjunct Pluto you go deeper into intellectual, philosophical, even metaphysical study. Inhaling the scent of books, your digits smudged with newly printed course catalogs, you may harken to a true calling for higher education. And those who had to travel to Zagreb to heed this wee voice inside will consider it well worth the trip.

Pisces

Expect an adjustment period. Saturn opposing Jupiter makes life extra tetchy as you piece the past together with your notion of the future. Old routines and relationships factor heavily. And, upon revisitation, it can shock to discover how much you’ve changed. You’re tempted to rely on default behavior—Pisces escapism—but isolation is dicey for many reasons others need never know. So let’s put it this way, you’ve committed to projects and people who respect your autonomy because you never fail to come through.
