In Greek mythology, the male Waterbearer is Ganymede, a beautiful boy love-object whose appeal was so surpassing that the macho chief god Zeus couldn’t resist swooping down, in the form of an eagle, to get at that booty. Like all fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) the Waterbearer magnetizes people to him; and he projects a youthfulness and accessibility, in keeping with his archetype. People always say that Aquarians are “out there”; and indeed they are often beyond being labeled or pigeon holed. Aquarius, and the Eleventh House it rules, represents evolutionary energy, which people of this sun-sign personify. Last week, we rattled off a list of avant-gardist men. This week, we are looking at Aquarians who are both ahead of the curve and eligible for a gym membership at Curves. A list of big-headed break-through Waterbearer babes who rewrote the rules includes Rosa Parks, Virginia Woolf, Yoko Ono, Ida Lupino, Colette, Ayn Rand, Betty Friedan, Susan B. Anthony, Gertrude Stein, Germaine Greer, Helen Gurley Brown and Corazon Aquino. If male Waterbearers are all John the Baptists, lost in their revelations, then Aquarius women, like Salome, are revelations themselves. Introspection is in order to address certain excesses, making strides to temper them. With Venus conjunct Uranus you first stick to the story that “hell is others”, convinced that isolation is the salve for stresses. Aquarius women often look like Tweety Bird, with their beaming lightbulb heads gleaming, lit, as they are, from within. Heather Graham, Christina Ricci, Mena Suvari, Mischa Barton, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, Florence Henderson—Waterbearing women of all ages are eternally youthful. The mythological female cupbearer was Hebe, goddess of youth, who married the mortal Heracles (Hercules), elevating him to god status. We see her in the character Stella (Star), in A Streetcar Named Desire, wedded as she is to the animalistic Stanley. In Tarot, The Star card depicts the lady waterbearer. A star befits the fixed-air status of Aquarius. Air symbolizes ideas and so fixed-air equals Truth. Another descending goddess is Iris, goddess of the rainbow, a symbol of diversity, the principle expressed by the sign’s ruler Uranus—Iris brought godlike understanding, truths, to mankind, traveling down along her rainbow. Salome’s dance of the seven veils, for each color of the rainbow, invites divine communion, with the waterbear John the Baptist. But he lost his head. BORN THIS WEEK Betty White (January 17, 1922)

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn (Greek: Cronus), named for the Titan god of the Golden Age, whose lady wife was called Rhea (she took Goat form). These Titans archetypally “live” in the sun-sign Capricorn people of this world. Just as they energize any part of our individual birthcharts where Capricorn and Saturn fall. It’s all about energy. And Capricorn people are the “greats” of the zodiac, which is why the Titans are the “grand” mothers and fathers in mythology. Capricorns may appear serious, reserved or retiring, but they employ the element of surprise. Saturn is old-father Time, which is always on Capricorn’s side. They are the tortoise to our hare. Surprise, they won! They are the sleeper successes who transcend the milieus in which they live and operate. Betty White embodied a happy homemaker from whom one wouldn’t expect lewd remarks, as well as a seeming simp who always had the last wise word. Capricorn is the sign of the greats in other ways too.
